This Mercury Retrograde I am doing a mala (108 repetitions counted on a strand of beads or rosary) to Saraswati every day. In my experience as a Kashmir Shaivist both masculine and feminine energy must be present in order to achieve a desired effect. I being by chanting 108 repetitions of the Mantra to Lord Ganesha. AUM GUM GANAPATAYE NAMAHA.
Ganesha, son of Shiva (the Destroyer) and Parvati (Shakti or Divine Feminine aspect that rules Love and Devotion) is the “Remover of Obstacles.” While some Western Traditions correspond Ganesha with the planet Mercury, Ganesha in fact rules Ketu (the South Node of the Moon) so he is not influenced by planetary transits. Hence, he is immune to the Mercury Retrograde. He is chanted to first in order to “open the doors” to the Gods.
Feminine (Active Energy):
Saraswati, the Goddess of Wisdom, Music and the Arts is also linked to Mercury in that she also rule Vak, which is another word for “Divine Speech.” She is important to me because “Divine Speech” is essential to proper channeling and psychic readings, etc … As a writer and a singer, Saraswati has been in my subconscious and conscious from a very early age. So, while Western Tradition put an emphasis on Venus (for the Arts) and Athena (Wisdom) we can see that these two energies are almost contrasted since Venus and Athena are polar opposites. In contrast Saraswati embodies all these qualities and for me embodies are more balanced, well rounded, cultured woman.
A popular beej manta for Saraswati is: AUM SHREEM HREEM SARASWATI NAMAHA.
Both mantras said in sequence with the Masculine first (grounding) and the Feminine next (Active Energy) make a complete “circuit.”
I have found that this lessens the worst aspects of Mercury Retrograde making possible disasters into minor mishaps. If you are a creative person, writer, artist, musician, actor or dancer, Saraswati and her energy should resonate very well with you.
